Even though time consuming challenges can be hard, my family really steps up helping around the house when I get on creative tangents which gives me the space and peace to do them. But this time, I'm not putting strict pressure on myself and have decided to enjoy my theme of AMERICANA and what that means to me. Lately, it means slowing down if I get tired! I was going to plow through and paint three paintings today since I'm traveling to Italy this weekend and will be unable to paint for a few days. But I knew going into the challenge that I'd better stay flexible, so I wouldn't get frustrated if I couldn't quite finish all 30. At this very moment, I'm choosing not to paint two more today. I'm going out to water the garden and pick some tomatoes for supper tonight instead, because that just works better for me today.
I'm posting "THE FAVORITE," for my husband of almost 23 years with joy and gratefulness. It's been amazing creating and laughing alongside him all these years and I'll never forget the day he brought this gorgeous Guild home decades ago. It was the nicest thing he'd ever bought for himself and even though he's collected many instruments since, this will probably always be his favorite. As I prepare to travel, I'll be leaving my favorites (he and my daughter!) and that will be a new thing for me. I'm typically happiest at home but I'm going to be flexible and try something new! Painting with a group of people who love it as much as I do, in a brand new place.
I may not be able to post the other 20 or so paintings since I'm not sure I'll have Wifi on the vineyard where I'm staying but if I can, I will. Plus, I may choose a glass of chianti and fawning over museums in Florence instead of working on exactly 20 more paintings. I may just cut myself a break and celebrate self-imposed goals that I can change up along the way if it works better for a blessed end result. What about you, are you flexible when creating too? THE FAVORITE is a 5x7" palette knife oil painting on a wood panel. www.shannoncelia.com and www.seashop.bigcartel.com
